Sights on Health, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate healthcare to individuals and communities whose geographic location and socioeconomic circumstances limit access to essential medical services in remote areas of Peru and Ecuador. Our mission is rooted in the belief that access to care is not a privilege, but a fundamental human need. Our organization is powered by a committed network of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and medical students from across the United States who generously volunteer their time, skills, and expertise. Together, they work to address critical gaps in care by providing comprehensive medical evaluations, surgical interventions, and ongoing treatment coordination for underserved populations.
Since our founding in 2012, Sights on Health has made a measurable and lasting impact. Our surgical team has performed more than 920 sight-restoring procedures, helping individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life. In addition, thousands of patients have received prescription eyeglasses, restoring functional vision for daily activities. To date, over 16,450 adult and pediatric patients have been evaluated by our medical and ophthalmology teams, with appropriate treatment plans and referrals established in collaboration with local healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
Through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Alcon, Surgical Eye Expeditions, and the generosity of private donors, Sights on Health has secured more than $1,200,000 in surgical supplies, equipment, and medications. These resources have enabled us to conduct week-long cataract surgery and medical missions annually since our inception. Each mission is carefully planned and directed toward communities with the greatest need, maximizing both reach and impact. Beyond the immediate care provided, our missions are designed to foster meaningful, lasting change. Patients receive not only critical medical and surgical interventions but also hope and the opportunity for a healthier future. At the same time, our volunteers gain invaluable clinical experience and the profound fulfillment that comes from serving others in resource-limited settings.
Our most recent mission, conducted in March 2026 in Cusco, Peru, exemplifies this impact. A multidisciplinary team of 34 volunteers—including physicians, internal medicine and ophthalmology residents, medical students, nurses, ophthalmic technicians, and translators—traveled from across the USA to Peru to participate in a one week mission. The surgical team performed 97 cataract procedures at a local facility, restoring vision for nearly one hundred individuals. Simultaneously, a traveling medical team consisting of internists, a nephrologist, a pediatrician, an ophthalmologist, and nursing staff delivered care to patients in remote villages with limited or no access to healthcare services. Over the course of the mission, 450 patients were evaluated, some with a portable ultrasound for enhanced diagnostic capability, treated, and connected with necessary follow-up care.
Through continued support and partnership, Sights on Health remains committed to expanding its reach and deepening its impact—bringing life-changing care to those who need it most.
